No fewer than three persons have been killed in a fresh attack by armed bandits in Dangoro village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The assailants were also said to have set several houses and food storage silos ablaze during the late-night raid, which occurred on March 28, 2026.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the attackers stormed the community around 10:30pm through the Nahuche District.

He said the gunmen, armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the village, firing indiscriminately and destroying property.

According to him, a joint security team comprising police operatives and local vigilantes responded promptly after receiving a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun battle.

“The operatives successfully repelled the assault, forcing the bandits to retreat into the bush with suspected gunshot wounds,” Abubakar stated.

He, however, confirmed that three persons, including a member of the Community Protection Guard, lost their lives in the attack.

The police spokesperson added that five persons sustained gunshot injuries, while four others suffered burns during the incident.

He further disclosed that several houses, silos containing food items, and livestock, including goats, were destroyed by fire.

Abubakar said the injured victims had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, where they were receiving treatment and showing signs of recovery.

He added that security operatives had intensified efforts to track down the fleeing attackers and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmad Muhammad, assured residents of continued efforts to protect lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies.
