Tragedy struck a Bengaluru family on Wednesday, April 1, when a 29-year-old woman allegedly took her own life following the accidental drowning of her 11-month-old son.
The victim, Pratibha, a software professional, was home with her son, Agastya, while her husband, Mahantesh, was at work.
Sources said the child wandered into the washing area and fell into a bucket of water while Pratibha briefly went to the terrace to collect clothes.
Upon returning, she reportedly discovered her son lifeless in the bucket.
Overcome with grief, she first attempted to harm herself by consuming pills and slitting her wrists, and later reportedly hanged herself, police said.
Mahantesh returned home around 6:30 pm to find the door locked.
Using a spare key, he entered the apartment and found both his wife and son dead.
Authorities recovered a suicide note in which Pratibha expressed feelings of guilt, claiming responsibility for the child’s death.
An empty strip of 15 tablets was also found at the scene.
The family had been residing in the rented flat for the past four years.
A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
