The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress intensified on Monday as a faction of the party in Adamawa State announced the suspension of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, alongside ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
The factional chairman in the state, Raji Sulaiman Zumo, disclosed the decision, stating that the action followed internal disagreements within the party structure.
The latest move underscores the deepening leadership tussle within the ADC, as rival groups continue to battle for control. A parallel faction, reportedly led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, has also laid claim to the party’s national chairmanship position.
The lingering dispute had earlier drawn the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission, which moved to withdraw recognition of a leadership structure associated with former Senate President, David Mark.
The development signals escalating divisions within the party, raising concerns over its stability ahead of future political engagements.
