A roadside hawker has lost his life in a fatal road accident in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State, as traffic authorities confirmed another crash that left seven persons injured in a separate incident.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed on Sunday that the fatal accident involved a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY.
According to a statement by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the male victim died instantly at the scene.
He noted that LASTMA officials swiftly responded to an emergency alert, secured the accident location, and evacuated the victim’s remains from the road to restore traffic flow.
The statement added that police operatives from the Ketu Division later took custody of the body and deposited it at the Badagry Mortuary.
In a related development, the agency said seven passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in a collision at the Ogudu inward toll gate.
The crash reportedly involved a Mazda commercial bus with registration number MUS 231 YA and a Lexus Jeep marked FKJ 23 HL.
LASTMA officials, in collaboration with personnel from the Ogudu Police Division, were said to have promptly intervened, while operatives of the Lagos State Ambulance Service transported the injured victims to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that all vehicles involved in both incidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Reacting, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, cautioned motorists against reckless driving, urging strict compliance with traffic rules and speed limits.
He emphasised the need for increased vigilance, especially during periods of low visibility, reiterating the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order on Lagos roads.
The incidents come weeks after a fatal multiple-vehicle crash at Soka Junction in Oyo State, which authorities blamed on dangerous driving and which claimed two lives while leaving several others injured.
