Tragedy struck in Plateau State on Monday as three persons lost their lives in a lone auto crash at the Polo Roundabout in Jos, raising fresh concerns over reckless driving on Nigerian roads.
The accident, which occurred around 2.30am, involved a truck that reportedly veered off course after the driver lost control, leading to a fatal impact that claimed the lives of the driver and two other occupants.
The Plateau State Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Peter Longsan, confirmed the incident, attributing the crash to loss of control, a recurring factor in many night-time accidents.
He warned motorists against dangerous driving, particularly during late hours when poor visibility and fatigue often impair judgment.
Longsan urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on trips, while stressing the need for strict compliance with speed limits and traffic regulations.
He also cautioned against overloading and other unsafe practices, noting that adherence to safety rules remains critical to reducing road crashes and preventing avoidable deaths.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over road safety across the country.
In a related development, the FRSC in Kano recently confirmed the death of four persons and injuries to 53 others in separate accidents along the Eastern Bypass near the General Muhammadu Buhari Interchange in Hotoro.
Authorities say intensified enforcement and public compliance are key to curbing the rising toll of road accidents nationwide.
