A Kaduna State High Court has postponed the hearing of a bail application filed by former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, fixing the first week of June 2026 for ruling.
The presiding judge, Darius Khobo, adjourned the matter on Tuesday, effectively ordering the continued detention of the ex-governor pending determination of his bail request.
El-Rufai is standing trial on multiple charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office, brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Reacting after the court session, defence counsel, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated adjournments, alleging that the delay in hearing the bail application was influenced by political considerations.
The former governor was earlier brought to court under heavy security, arriving in a convoy alongside officials of the ICPC and operatives of the Department of State Services.
Outside the courtroom, a crowd of supporters gathered in solidarity, while security personnel enforced tight control around the premises to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
With the latest adjournment, the African Democratic Congress chieftain will remain in custody until June when the court is expected to decide on his bail application.
