Bauchi orders appointees eyeing 2027 polls to resign by Friday
The Bauchi State Government has directed all political appointees with ambitions to contest in the forthcoming party primaries to step down from their positions on or before Friday, April 24, 2026.
The directive, anchored on the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
The order is expected to trigger a wave of resignations within the state cabinet and across Ministries, Departments and Agencies as the 2027 political season gathers momentum.
Gidado said the move was necessary to ensure strict adherence to the legal framework guiding the participation of public office holders in electoral processes.
According to him, the government will not tolerate any breach of the law, stressing that compliance is mandatory for all affected officials.
He added that appointees who intend to join the race but are yet to resign must do so before the stipulated deadline or risk sanctions.
The governor’s aide further directed all affected officials to immediately hand over government property and official responsibilities to designated officers in their respective MDAs.
While appreciating the contributions of the appointees to governance in the state, the government wished them success in their political pursuits.
The development signals the formal commencement of political realignments in Bauchi as aspirants position themselves ahead of party primaries.
