The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated former Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Elizabeth Aina Egharevba, on her 70th birthday, describing her as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, the minister said Egharevba’s milestone birthday deserved national recognition, given her years of dedicated service and contributions to the development of the industry.

Oyetola commended her nearly three decades of service at the NPA, noting that her professionalism, leadership and competence earned her respect across the maritime space.

He particularly highlighted her appointment in November 2007 as the first female Executive Director, Marine and Operations, describing it as a landmark achievement that advanced gender inclusion in the sector.

“Your career has not only been marked by excellence but has also opened doors for more women to take up leadership roles in the maritime industry,” the minister said.

The statement also recalled her previous roles as Port Manager of the RORO Port and later the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, where she demonstrated strong administrative capacity and leadership.

Oyetola noted that her contributions extended beyond personal accomplishments, adding that her career remained a source of inspiration for younger generations, especially women seeking to build careers in maritime and public service.

“As you mark this significant milestone, it is my hope that you reflect with pride on the legacy you have built and the lasting impact you have made on the maritime sector,” he added.

The minister wished her good health and many more years of fulfilment, commending her for exemplifying integrity, diligence and courage throughout her career.

Egharevba is widely regarded as a pioneer whose achievements have continued to shape conversations around inclusion and excellence in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
