Two persons sustained gunshot injuries on Tuesday evening when security operatives foiled a suspected kidnap attempt in the old Kara area of Bodija, within Ibadan North Local Government Area.
The Oyo State Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. on April 21, 2026, following a distress call reporting the invasion of a Point of Sale outlet by armed hoodlums.
Police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers, in collaboration with local hunters, swiftly mobilised to the scene, disrupting what authorities described as a planned abduction.
He explained that the attackers, numbering about four, opened fire on arrival but were met with resistance from security operatives, leading to a gun duel.
“Upon receiving the report, our operatives immediately responded. Their prompt action, supported by local hunters, successfully foiled the attack and forced the criminals to abandon their mission,” Ayanlade stated.
He added that two individuals were caught in the crossfire and sustained gunshot wounds but were rescued and rushed to a medical facility, where they are currently responding to treatment.
The police said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, with intensified bush-combing operations already underway in the surrounding areas.
The development comes days after a similar attack in Onigambari village in Oluyole Local Government Area, where a victim identified as Dasola was killed.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of additional personnel to identified flashpoints to forestall further attacks.
The command urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements, assuring that measures were being strengthened to combat kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
