Panic gripped residents of a community in Kano State after suspected terrorists launched an attack that left one person dead and several others injured.
The assailants were said to have stormed the area and proceeded to a nearby vigilante office, where they opened fire indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety.
Commander of the Rogo Vigilante Group, Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, who confirmed the incident while briefing local authorities, said one victim died on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to him, four of the injured are currently receiving treatment, following swift intervention by local security personnel which helped to prevent further casualties.
Barhaya added that vigilante members, in collaboration with security operatives, evacuated the victims to nearby medical facilities.
He noted that one of the injured persons, who was in critical condition, was later referred to a hospital in Gwarzo for advanced medical attention.
In response to the attack, authorities have reinforced security in the area, deploying a joint patrol team drawn from neighbouring Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts intensify to apprehend those behind the attack.
