The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old boy abducted in the state and arrested three suspects, recovering a substantial part of the ransom paid by the victim’s family.
The breakthrough was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the police, the incident was reported on April 19 by a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, who alleged that his son, Aliyu Muhammad, was whisked away by unidentified persons in front of their residence.
The abductors were said to have later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦1 million.
Despite receiving the payment, the suspects reportedly failed to release the child.
Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ordered the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to deploy intelligence and operational resources to track down the perpetrators.
The police said sustained surveillance and technical intelligence led operatives to the suspects’ hideout, where three individuals were apprehended.
Those arrested were identified as Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters.
“The victim was found at the residence of one of the suspects, Hussaini Saminu, and was rescued unhurt,” the statement noted, adding that the child has since been reunited with his family.
Operatives also recovered ₦930,000, believed to be part of the ransom collected by the kidnappers.
Commending the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the police boss described the operation as a display of professionalism and tactical efficiency.
He also acknowledged the support and technical input from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which he said contributed to the success recorded.
Bakori warned that the state would remain hostile to criminal elements, vowing that the command would deploy all lawful means to bring offenders to justice.
He further urged residents, particularly parents and guardians, to stay alert and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
