The Kogi State Government has confirmed the rescue of 15 pupils following an attack by suspected gunmen on an orphanage and school facility in Zariagi, near the Kabba Junction axis of Lokoja.
The incident, which occurred late on April 26, 2026, reportedly led to the abduction of 23 pupils and the wife of the school proprietor.
As reported by TVC News, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
According to him, security agencies responded swiftly to the attack, leading to the successful rescue of 15 of the victims.
“Security operatives acted promptly, and their coordinated efforts led to the safe rescue of 15 pupils,” he said.
Fanwo added that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those behind the attack.
He identified the affected institution as Dahallukitab Group of Schools, alleging that it was operating without proper registration in a remote and vulnerable location.
“The school was reportedly running illegally in a secluded area without the knowledge of relevant authorities, which exposed it to security threats,” he stated.
The commissioner commended the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for their swift intervention, warning against the establishment of unregistered schools and orphanages in isolated areas.
