Tragedy struck in the Ajah area of Lagos following the killing of a 67-year-old man, Augustine Nwalieze, allegedly by his gateman under circumstances yet to be fully determined.
The deceased, said to be a manager with Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked in his residence on Saturday morning shortly after preparing to leave home.
A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident has left relatives devastated.
According to the source, Nwalieze had gone downstairs to the car park area of the house, where vehicle spare parts and a solar panel were kept, when the attack occurred.
Concern reportedly arose after family members noticed that none of his vehicles had been moved and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.
Suspicion later shifted to the gateman, Abdullahi Dairu, after he allegedly gave conflicting accounts about the victim’s whereabouts.
The source said the suspect claimed the deceased had gone out with a friend, but the said friend denied seeing him that day.
Dairu was said to have fled shortly after, prompting a search of the premises.
The victim’s lifeless body was eventually discovered in one of the flats within the compound.
He was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
It was gathered that the deceased lived in the house with his wife, daughter, two maids and another occupant, who were upstairs at the time of the incident, while his other children reside elsewhere.
The family has reportedly begun arrangements to transport his remains to his hometown.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Command said an investigation had commenced.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing security guard linked to the crime.
