Tragedy struck in Owo, Ondo State, following the death of a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, identified as Audi Emmanuel, who was found lifeless in his residence under controversial circumstances.
The deceased, a Computer Engineering student, was reportedly discovered in his room along Awolowo Road in Emure-Ile, within the Owo Local Government Area.
While initial reports suggested that he may have taken his own life, some of his colleagues have raised concerns, alleging foul play and questioning the circumstances surrounding his death, especially after a video of the scene circulated online.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command described it as a suspected suicide case but noted that investigations were ongoing.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, stated that operatives promptly responded to the report and evacuated the body to a morgue for preservation and autopsy.
He said preliminary findings pointed to a possible suicide, but stressed that a comprehensive investigation would determine the exact cause of death.
Jimoh added that the command sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to seek support during emotional distress and speak up when facing difficult moments.
The incident has sparked reactions among students and residents, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation to uncover the truth behind the young student’s death.
