A fire outbreak on Wednesday gutted a business plaza along Airport Road in Kano, destroying two hospital equipment shops and causing significant losses.
The incident, which occurred at No 20A Airport Road in Fagge Local Government Area, was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service.
In a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the fire was reported at about 401am by a resident identified as Chukude.
According to the statement, emergency responders were immediately mobilised from the agency’s headquarters and other stations within the metropolis to the scene.
On arrival, firefighters found a two storey building used as a commercial plaza engulfed in flames.
The fire service said two hospital equipment shops located on the ground floor were severely affected by the blaze.
It added that multiple firefighting trucks were deployed from Abubakar Rimi Market, Kantin Kwari, Bompai Fire Station and the Central Fire Station to contain the inferno.
The agency noted that the cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
Director of the fire service, Sani Anas, urged residents to adopt safety measures to prevent fire outbreaks and advised members of the public to promptly alert relevant authorities in the event of emergencies.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
