Terrorists have launched another deadly attack in Tenibo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three operatives of the Police Mobile Force in a fresh overnight assault.
The incident, which occurred around midnight on Saturday, came barely 11 days after a similar attack in nearby Kemanji community, where three soldiers were killed during a prolonged gun duel with armed assailants.
With the latest killings, at least six security personnel have reportedly been lost to terrorist attacks in the area within two weeks, heightening fear and tension across affected communities.
Eyewitness accounts said the attackers emerged from a nearby forest and stormed a security post, overpowering the officers before fleeing back into the bush after the operation.
Residents described the assault as swift and brutal, noting that the gunmen appeared to target security formations and routinely retreat into the forest immediately after striking.
A local government staff member in Kaiama, who requested anonymity, confirmed the attack, while lamenting the worsening insecurity in the area.
A resident also appealed to authorities to take decisive action against the forest reportedly being used as a hideout by the attackers, saying its proximity to the community makes it easier for them to launch repeated assaults.
“The forest is not far from the community, just about a kilometre away.
They strike from there and disappear back into it,” the resident said. “Government should clear the area so residents can safely return to farming and help flush them out.”
He urged urgent intervention to prevent further loss of lives, especially among security operatives deployed to the area.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, said the attack happened in the early hours of Saturday.
“Yes, it happened again this morning. The terrorists killed three of our mobile police officers,” he said.
Danladi added that efforts were underway to strengthen collaboration with state and federal authorities to address the worsening security situation, stressing that the local council lacked the capacity to handle the crisis alone.
