Several persons are feared dead after suspected herdsmen ambushed farmers along the Odugbeho–Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the victims were returning from their farms when the assailants, who reportedly lay in wait, opened fire on them.
Although the exact casualty figure remained unclear as of the time of filing this report, sources said no fewer than four bodies had been recovered from the scene.
Two of the victims were identified as Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation were unsuccessful, as the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Edet Udeme, neither answered calls nor responded to text messages sent to him.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in parts of the state, which has continued to grapple with recurring clashes linked to armed groups.
