A 37-year-old man, Ziaulihak Zakari, popularly known as Abuja, has allegedly confessed to receiving N500,000 to carry out an acid attack on a female spa worker in the Lakowe area of Lagos State.
The victim, identified as Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, reportedly suffered serious injuries to her head, chest and hands during the incident, which occurred on October 25, 2025.
It was gathered that Awosogbon had responded to a home service appointment booked through the spa where she worked.
The session was said to have been scheduled at Lakowe Golf Gate near Utmost Care Hospital in the Ibeju-Lekki area, where the attack later took place.
Findings, however, revealed that the victim was allegedly attacked in error and was not the intended target.
The victim’s employer, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa, told journalists that the incident was linked to a dispute involving a former relationship between her and another suspect alleged to have contracted Zakari for the attack.
According to her, the relationship was marked by repeated disagreements before it eventually ended.
Zakari and another suspect, Owolabi Daniel, have since been arraigned before an Magistrate Court on charges bordering on conspiracy, threat to life and causing bodily harm.
In a video said to have been recorded after his arrest on March 19, 2026, Zakari admitted that he was hired to pour acid on someone but mistakenly attacked the wrong person.
He claimed that Daniel contacted him through a security guard and discussed plans for the assault.
Zakari said he initially hesitated to carry out the act out of fear but later proceeded during another opportunity, only to attack the wrong individual.
He further alleged that the corrosive substance used for the attack was provided by Daniel and the security guard, adding that he paid the guard N50,000 after receiving N500,000 for the operation.
The suspect also expressed regret over the incident.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly conspired in October 2025 at Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki, to commit felony offences including threats to life and causing bodily harm, contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The document further alleged that Daniel threatened Ifeoluwa through WhatsApp messages, while Zakari was accused of unlawfully inflicting injuries on Awosogbon by pouring a corrosive substance on her.
