Several travellers were reportedly killed while others sustained injuries after suspected bandits attacked commuters along the Gusau–Magami highway in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred in Gusau Local Government Area of the state and was confirmed on Sunday by the Councillor representing Magami Ward, Hon. Shehu Musa.
According to the councillor, the victims were travelling from Gusau to Magami when armed assailants ambushed them and opened fire on the vehicles.
The attack reportedly left many passengers dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Although the exact number of casualties was not disclosed, the incident has heightened fears among residents and motorists using the highway, which has witnessed repeated attacks by criminal gangs in recent years.
Musa expressed sympathy to the families of those killed and injured during the attack and prayed for comfort for the affected communities.
He also urged residents to continue praying for lasting peace and an end to the wave of insecurity confronting Zamfara State and other parts of the country.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over persistent attacks on travellers and communities by armed groups operating across parts of the North-West region.
