The burial rites for Adesiyan Adegboye, one of the teachers slain during last week’s coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, commenced on Friday amid grief in the Ogbomoso community.
Adegboye, 49, was reportedly shot dead during the attack carried out by suspected bandits on three schools in the area.
The funeral service began at Ayegun Baptist Church, while the deceased is expected to be laid to rest later on Friday at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.
The late teacher, born on December 11, 1976, was killed when gunmen invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School at about 9:30am last Friday.
Several teachers and pupils were abducted during the coordinated attacks, which threw the affected communities into panic.
Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the affected communities on Saturday and ordered the deployment of additional detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to support ongoing rescue efforts.
The police authorities said the reinforcement was aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted teachers and schoolchildren.
Earlier, Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that seven students were abducted from Community Secondary School, while 18 pupils and seven teachers were kidnapped from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School during the attacks.
Makinde also confirmed that one person lost his life in the incident.
The attacks sparked widespread fear across Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities, forcing many parents to hurriedly withdraw their children from schools over fears of fresh assaults.
Some schools in the area were temporarily shut down after rumours emerged that bandits had infiltrated Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.
However, the management of the institution later dismissed the claims, describing them as false and misleading.
