The palace of the Deji of Akureland has dismissed rumours alleging that a traditional curfew would be imposed across Akure metropolis on Friday, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akureland, Adeyeye Michael, the palace said the information did not emanate from the royal institution.
The palace urged residents of Akure and members of the public to disregard the rumour, warning that it was capable of creating unnecessary panic and tension within the state capital.
According to the statement, there was no directive from the palace ordering restriction of movement or any form of traditional curfew in the community.
The palace further advised residents to continue with their lawful activities without fear, assuring the public that the situation in the town remained peaceful.
It also warned individuals involved in spreading false information to desist from the act or risk facing consequences.
“The attention of the palace of the Deji of Akureland has been drawn to a rumour flying around that there will be a traditional curfew within Akure metropolis today.
“We wish to state categorically that such information is untrue and does not emanate from the palace,” the statement added.
