The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 26-year-old suspect, John Butren, over an alleged attempted murder incident in Owo, Ondo State.

The command said the suspect was arrested following an attack on one Moses Paul, 30, during a dispute at Alajawo Camp in Owo on May 20, 2026.

According to the police, the victim sustained severe machete injuries to his head and shoulder during the altercation.

The incident was reported at the A Division Police Station in Owo by one Esther Agunloye, prompting detectives to immediately launch an investigation and move to the scene.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police said the cutlass allegedly used in carrying out the attack was recovered during preliminary investigations.

The statement added that the injured victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The command further disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and had since been charged to court.

According to the police, the court subsequently ordered his remand at the Owo Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, reiterated the command’s resolve to tackle violent crimes and ensure offenders are prosecuted.

He warned residents against taking the law into their hands and urged members of the public to embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes.

The police commissioner also called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to aid crime prevention and improve public safety across the state.
