The Katsina State Police Command has arrested six suspects allegedly involved in a violent attack on residents of Keku Village in Musawa Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 2 p.m. when the suspects reportedly stormed the community armed with machetes and sticks, attacking villagers and inflicting injuries on several residents.
The statement said police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene after receiving a distress report and successfully apprehended the suspects.
Those arrested were identified as Dayyabu Salisu, 25; Usama Mansur, 23; Yunusa Nura, 27; Abdulmumini Alka, 23; Buhari Suleiman, 27; and Abubakar Safiyanu, 27.
Police authorities said exhibits recovered from the suspects included machetes, sticks and motorcycles allegedly used during the attack.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly conspired to disrupt the peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and destabilise the calm atmosphere in the community.
The command noted that the prompt intervention of personnel from the Village Community Response Unit prevented the situation from escalating further.
The injured victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively, according to the police.
The statement added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar Fage, condemned the attack and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
The police command reiterated its resolve to clamp down on thuggery, mob violence and other criminal acts capable of threatening public peace and security across the state.
Meanwhile, the police also disclosed that operatives in Delta State recently arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a pump-action gun, live cartridges and other incriminating items during a separate operation.
