The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has expelled 365 students for securing admission into the institution with forged academic credentials.

The affected students, who were enrolled in various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, were found to have presented falsified National Diploma (ND) results and forged academic transcripts from different institutions during the admission process.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola.

According to the statement, the decision followed an extensive verification exercise carried out on credentials submitted by students during admission and registration.

Ajibola said the exercise revealed widespread irregularities in the academic records presented by the affected students, prompting the institution to take disciplinary action.

“The expulsion followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted on the credentials submitted by students during the admission and registration processes,” he stated.

He noted that the action reflects the institution’s determination to sanitise the academic system and enforce its zero-tolerance policy against fraud, forgery and other forms of academic misconduct.

A breakdown of the affected students showed that the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number of expulsions with 156 students.

The School of Business and Management Studies followed with 117 students, while the School of Science and Technology had 54 students.

The School of Engineering accounted for 36 students, while the School of Environmental Studies recorded two cases.

Reacting to the development, the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Koye Jolaoso, warned prospective applicants against presenting fake credentials to gain admission into the institution.

He stressed that the decisive action was necessary to preserve the integrity of the institution’s academic system and maintain public confidence in its qualifications.

Jolaoso added that the measure aligns with the polytechnic’s vision of promoting academic excellence and strengthening its reputation as a credible and transparent institution of higher learning.

He reaffirmed the management’s commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability and ethical standards in all aspects of its operations.
