Ondo LG boss debunks school closure rumour, assures residents of safety

The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has dismissed reports claiming that schools in the council area were shut down over security concerns, describing the information as false and misleading.

Adegoroye stated that neither his office nor the local government administration had directed the closure of any public or private school within the area.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on New Media, Comrade Olatunji Babatunde, following the circulation of reports suggesting that schools had been ordered to close indefinitely.

According to the statement, the report did not originate from the office of the council chairman and was based on unverified information.

“The report did not emanate from the office of the Executive Chairman of Odigbo Local Government. It is misleading and should be disregarded by members of the public,” the statement said.

Adegoroye commended residents and stakeholders who sought official confirmation before reacting to the report, noting that all schools across the local government remain open and are carrying out their academic activities without disruption.

He added that he had engaged security agencies operating in the area to address concerns generated by the rumour and ensure the continued maintenance of peace and public order.

The council boss urged parents, students, teachers and other residents to remain calm and continue with their normal activities, assuring them that there was no threat warranting the closure of schools.

He further reiterated the commitment of the state government to the protection of lives and property, stressing that the security and welfare of residents remain a priority.

“The safety and security of residents remain a top priority of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Ondo State Government.

We therefore encourage members of the public to go about their lawful activities without apprehension,” he stated.
