A 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, has been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her and robbing her of ₦100,000.
The suspect, said to be a resident of Riyal Quarters in Gombe, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by the victim at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the incident occurred in the early hours of June 9, 2026.
According to him, the victim reported that at about 2 a.m., the suspect unlawfully entered her residence by scaling the perimeter fence before forcing his way into her room.
Abdullahi alleged that the suspect attacked the woman with an iron hammer and later attempted to strangle her with a USB cable before making away with ₦100,000.
He said the victim sustained serious injuries during the assault but managed to raise an alarm, forcing the suspect to flee the scene.
The police spokesperson stated that officers promptly responded to the report, visited the scene and evacuated the victim to a hospital, where she received treatment and was subsequently discharged.
He added that a swift investigation led to the suspect’s arrest at about 9:45 a.m. on the same day.
Items recovered from the suspect included an iron hammer suspected to be stained with blood and a USB cable believed to have been used during the attack.
Preliminary findings by investigators indicated that the suspect had earlier requested financial assistance from the victim, a businesswoman, but his request was turned down.
“The suspect, who is the victim’s boyfriend, had sought money from her earlier that day, knowing she was involved in business activities, but she declined,” the statement noted.
The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to security agencies.
Meanwhile, the police recalled a similar violent incident in April when operatives of the Ogun State Police Command arrested a 25-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, for allegedly killing two persons and injuring three others during a knife attack in the Olambe area of Ogun State.
