A kidnap victim has regained freedom after escaping from captivity during a gun duel between police operatives and suspected bandits in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred during a security operation in the Bukuyum and Anka areas, communities that have witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups in recent months.
According to security sources, the victim was initially abducted from Dansadau community in Maru Local Government Area and taken to a hideout by the kidnappers.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when security operatives launched an offensive against the criminal gang, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.
A security report indicated that amid the confusion created by the confrontation, the victim and another captive seized the opportunity to flee from their abductors.
Both individuals were said to have escaped unharmed and are currently safe.
Authorities have commenced efforts to reunite the rescued victim with family members.
Security officials disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer in Dansadau has been contacted to assist in tracing the relatives of the escapees and facilitating their safe return home.
The latest development comes as security agencies intensify operations against banditry and kidnapping activities across parts of Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
