A woman, identified as Olatunde Mary, has been arraigned by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly attacking and inflicting serious injuries on her husband during a domestic altercation in Akure, the state capital.

The police said the suspect, a resident of Ilado II along Igbatoro Road, Akure, was arrested and prosecuted following an incident that reportedly left her husband, Olatunde Julius, with a severe injury to his hand.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the case was reported to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the Command Headquarters on June 3, 2026.

The statement disclosed that investigations commenced immediately after the complaint was received.

Preliminary findings revealed that the incident occurred on June 2 at about 2:30 p.m. during a disagreement between the couple.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly assaulted her husband and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand.

Police authorities said the victim was rushed for medical treatment, where the severity of the injury was assessed and documented.

Investigators subsequently obtained statements from both parties and gathered relevant evidence to aid the probe.

The command stated that after concluding its investigation and establishing a prima facie case against the suspect, she was taken into custody and arraigned before a court for prosecution.

Reacting to the development, the Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling all forms of domestic violence, stressing that offenders would be held accountable irrespective of their gender or relationship with victims.

The command also urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic abuse and gender-related offences to security agencies for swift intervention.

Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu assured residents that the command would continue to ensure thorough investigations and diligent prosecution of criminal cases while protecting vulnerable members of society.
