The House of Representatives candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adeyeri Stephen, has urged residents of the constituency not to support the ruling party, saying Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when citizens hold leaders accountable through their votes.
Adeyeri made the call in a Democracy Day message issued on Thursday to commemorate the June 12 anniversary.
The NDC candidate congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Akoko South East and Akoko South West, for witnessing another Democracy Day, describing the occasion as a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists in the struggle for democratic governance.
He noted that June 12 remains a symbol of the people’s desire for justice, freedom, and good governance, stressing that elected leaders must always place the welfare of citizens above personal and political interests.
According to him, the current economic and social challenges confronting Nigerians require fresh ideas and people-oriented leadership capable of addressing the needs of the masses.
Adeyeri urged constituents to carefully evaluate the performance of those in government and reject any attempt to perpetuate what he described as poor governance through continued support for the ruling party.
He said, “June 12 is a significant day in our nation’s history. It reminds us of the sacrifices made by heroes of democracy and the need for citizens to remain vigilant in defending democratic values.
“I urge the good people of Akoko South East and Akoko South West Federal Constituency not to support the ruling party but to embrace leaders who are committed to transparency, accountability, development and the welfare of the people.”
The NDC flagbearer also called on residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and actively participate in the democratic process, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its challenges through collective efforts and responsible leadership.
He reaffirmed his commitment to providing quality representation and pursuing policies that would improve the lives of the people if elected to the House of Representatives.
