The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Omowole Opeyemi, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend with a broken bottle during a heated altercation in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred at a relaxation spot along Broad Street in the town, left the 22-year-old victim hospitalised with injuries.
Sources familiar with the matter said the disagreement between the couple escalated into violence, prompting the suspect to allegedly attack the man with a broken bottle.
A video circulating on social media showed the suspect admitting that an argument with the victim degenerated into a confrontation, during which she allegedly injured him.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect had been taken into custody and was assisting investigators.
According to him, preliminary findings revealed that the altercation occurred on June 12 and resulted in injuries to the victim, who was immediately rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
“The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman in connection with a case of grievous assault reported in Okitipupa,” Jimoh said.
“Initial investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly stabbed a 22-year-old man with a broken bottle after an argument between them escalated into a physical confrontation.”
The police spokesman stated that detectives responded swiftly after receiving a report of the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
He added that the victim was taken to the State Specialist Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The command noted that investigations into the matter were ongoing and assured the public that further details would be made available as the case progresses.
Meanwhile, in another video shared online, the victim, identified simply as Tosin, said he survived the attack and accused the suspect of stabbing him during the dispute.
He also alleged that his mobile phone went missing after the incident.
The development has renewed concerns over the increasing number of violent disputes arising from personal relationships and social gatherings.
Security experts have repeatedly advised residents to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and avoid resorting to violence during disagreements, warning that seemingly minor disputes can quickly spiral into serious criminal incidents.
