The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old security guard attached to an Islamiyya school in Jega Local Government Area over the alleged assault of a 10-year-old girl.
The state Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, disclosed the arrest while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
According to the police chief, the suspect, identified as Faruku Muhammed, a resident of Tungar Zabarmawa in Jega, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by members of the victim’s community.
Hadejia said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred on June 14, 2026, when the suspect allegedly lured the minor into his room within the premises of the Islamiyya school where he worked as a security guard.
He noted that the command had commenced a full investigation into the matter and assured residents that justice would be served.
“The case is currently under investigation, and the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law if found culpable,” the commissioner stated.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from abuse and exploitation.
Hadejia urged parents, guardians and community leaders to promptly report cases involving children and other forms of criminal activity to security agencies.
He also appealed to residents to continue providing useful information that could assist law enforcement officers in combating crime across the state.
The commissioner assured the public that reports relating to child abuse and other criminal offences would receive prompt attention and thorough investigation.
