The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Adedayo Faduyile, has emerged victorious in the Ondo South Senatorial by-election held on Saturday.
Faduyile, a former President of the Nigerian Medical Association and Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, at the official collation centre in Okitipupa.
According to the results announced by the electoral authorities, the APC candidate secured 68,474 votes to defeat candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement, Action Peoples Party and the Boot Party.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant senatorial seat representing Ondo South Senatorial District.
Faduyile’s victory further strengthens the APC’s hold on the district, following a contest that featured four political parties.
The Returning Officer confirmed that the APC candidate polled the highest number of valid votes cast in the election and was therefore returned elected in accordance with the provisions of the law.
