Suspected terrorists have abducted a resident and razed several structures, including a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps outpost, during an attack on Tsamiya community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack, which occurred on Saturday night, also left a brothel and a residential building in ruins after the assailants reportedly set them ablaze.
The victim, identified as Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare, was reportedly whisked away by the gunmen during the invasion.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Bashir Usman, said the attackers stormed the community and opened fire before carrying out the destruction.
According to him, the hoodlums burned a makeshift NSCDC checkpoint, a local brothel and the residence of one Sule Mai Goge before fleeing the area with the abducted resident.
Usman disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the immediate deployment of additional security operatives to the affected community to reinforce security and prevent further attacks.
He added that security agencies had launched a coordinated operation aimed at rescuing the kidnapped victim and apprehending those responsible for the incident.
“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have commenced investigations and intensified operations to rescue the abducted victim and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.
The command urged residents to remain calm and continue to support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities in the area.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over security challenges in parts of Kebbi State, where communities continue to face threats from armed groups operating within the region.
