The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced the recruitment of ad hoc personnel for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, calling on qualified Nigerians to apply for various electoral roles.
In a statement issued on Monday, the electoral body announced that applications are being accepted for the positions of Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Technical Support Staff and Registration Area Centre Managers.
INEC said the recruitment exercise would be conducted through its INECPRES portal, which serves as the official platform for the registration of eligible ad hoc staff.
According to the commission, the application portal became active on June 27 and will close automatically at midnight on July 18, urging interested applicants to complete their registration before the deadline.
The commission explained that officers on Grade Levels 12 to 14 in the Federal Public Service and Ministries, Departments and Agencies are eligible to serve as Supervisory Presiding Officers. It added that preference would be given to qualified personnel from the National Youth Service Corps, National Orientation Agency, National Identity Management Commission and National Population Commission. Eligible INEC staff on Grade Levels 8 to 14 who are not assigned other election responsibilities may also apply.
For the positions of Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers, the commission said serving corps members, ex-corps members who completed the National Youth Service Corps programme between 2024 and 2026, penultimate-year students of federal tertiary institutions, and federal MDA employees on Grade Levels 7 to 10 with OND or NCE qualifications are qualified.
INEC further disclosed that Registration Area Centre Managers would be selected from heads of schools or officials of institutions designated as Registration Area Centres, while Registration Area Technical Support Staff would be drawn from qualified ICT personnel within the commission who are not assigned to other election duties.
The electoral umpire, however, warned that only politically neutral individuals would be considered for engagement.
It stressed that applicants must not belong to any political party or have publicly demonstrated support for any political party or candidate.
The commission reiterated that applications submitted after the July 18 deadline would not be accepted.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026.
