The body of a man who was earlier declared missing has been recovered at an illegal mining site in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on his verified X handle.
According to the report, troops of Sector 3, Operation Enduring Peace, responded at about 7:30 a.m. on June 29 after receiving information that the victim, identified simply as Jerry, had gone missing from the Rantya area.
The troops, working alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, immediately launched a search operation in nearby bushes and surrounding communities.
During the operation, the search team discovered the victim’s body at an illegal mining site.
The report stated that the deceased had visible gunshot injuries and machete wounds.
Preliminary findings indicated that the victim had reportedly left his residence to engage in illegal mining activities but failed to return home, prompting his relatives to alert security authorities.
