A Magistrate’s Court in Bauchi State has convicted two men for burglary and theft after they broke into a residence in Bauchi Local Government Area and carted away mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed the conviction in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who said the incident occurred about a month ago.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as 28-year-old Iliyasu Musa and Ibrahim Isah, both residents of Baluwa Village, were arrested following a complaint by a resident whose home was allegedly burgled.

The police said the suspects made away with four mobile phones, a power bank, two T-shirts, a wristwatch and N20,000 in cash during the operation.

The statement explained that a thorough investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects, who later confessed to committing the offences during interrogation.

It added that the suspects were subsequently arraigned before the court on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, housebreaking and theft.

According to the command, the court found both men guilty and convicted them after the prosecution presented its case.

The police listed the recovered stolen items as an Infinix Hot 10 Play valued at N89,000, two keypad phones worth N15,000 each, a Tecno Android phone valued at N50,000, a power bank worth N30,000, two T-shirts valued at N28,000, a wristwatch worth N6,000 and N20,000 cash.

Reacting to the judgment, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the Divisional Police Officer and the investigating team for their diligence and professionalism, which resulted in the successful prosecution of the case.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that criminal offenders are brought to justice and urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to strengthen efforts against crime.
