Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two suspects over their alleged involvement in a case of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and armed robbery in Gadau community of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the arrests followed an intelligence-driven investigation into the robbery.

According to the police, a 28-year-old resident of Gadau reported the incident at the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters on July 3, stating that five armed men invaded his residence at about 3 a.m. on June 8.

The complainant told investigators that the assailants, armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, forced their way into his bedroom, threatened him and his wife with machetes, tied them up and carted away valuables.

Items reportedly stolen include a Jincheng motorcycle, five Android mobile phones, 10 wrappers, three wristwatches, a cap and N1 million in cash, with the total value of the stolen property estimated at about N4 million.

Abubakar said detectives immediately visited the scene and commenced an intelligence-led operation, which led to the arrest of two suspects identified as 20-year-old Salisu Umar of Gadau and 20-year-old Sadiq Shehu of Azare in Katagum Local Government Area.

He added that during an identification parade, the complainant’s wife identified Shehu as one of the men who entered her room and forced her to open the main gate for the other members of the gang.

The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for the successful arrests and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Aliyu also assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, stressing that everyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in combating criminal activities across the state.
