In bid to empower young female entrepreneurs, a Nigerian beauty pageant winner Doyinmola Olajoye has concluded plans to relaunch her humanitarian project, named Orange Humanity Project.
Olajoye was crowned Miss Ekimogun in 2021, during the Ekimogun week – an annual event where all sons and daughters of Ondo kingdom at home and in Diaspora come together to showcase their culture and raise funds for the development of their community.
In a press statement signed by her media aide, Dotun Omisakin, the current Miss Ekimogun said the relaunch of her humanitarian project is aimed at equipping young girls with creative skills and climate change education to become wealth creators, culture enthusiasts, also to improve the quality of their lives.
Narrating how she began the humanitarian project, she said: “In 2018, when Orange Humanity Project was launched, we were focused on creative skills for the promotion of our culture. We trained girls on how to make contemporary bags, accessories, notepads with indigenous fabrics using Ankara majorly and also Asooke.”
She explained that this relaunch has a new offering of sensitizing the young ones on climate change.
“I made research and found out how much climate change can affect humans in years from now if not curbed, and I decided it was a vital additional young girls must be sensitized and trained on. We added climate change education, in addition to different creative skills that we are focused on.” She said.
She added that the relaunch billed to take place at Motel Ondo Plaza in Ondo state from Wednesday 20th April to Friday 22nd April, 2022 would afford the young female entrepreneurs from the age of 14 – 18 to go through a 2-days training.
“Beneficiaries will go through an intensive 2-day training, with provision of all training materials for the different crafts, and top 3 beneficiaries will be given startup tool kits for continuous practical purpose, after the project all participants will be mentored for 2 weeks by their respective Trainers to spur them into interest in practicing what they have learnt.” She said.
She added that there would an exhibition and presentation of products on the 3rd day after the training, calling for sponsors to help make the project robust.
Brief about the convener
Doyinmola Olajoye runs an Enterprise, Dhoney Adire and Crafts Nigeria, where she makes contemporary Adire textiles and Crafts, train people on the art of Adire making through our different Masterclass and Bootcamp programs.
At Dhoney, we are our first Creative Craft resource persons for the humanitarian project, teaching people what we know and helping them become creative and empower to create wealth. Orange Humanity Project has also gotten immense support from craft persons who runs enterprises too, so we have volunteer trainers who come in to deposit their knowledge on the younger ones.
