Fubara: Loyalists ditch PDP, APC, pitch tent with APP

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, loyal to Governor Siminialayi Fubara, have all shifted loyalty to the Action Peoples Party, APP, to actualise their political future.

This followed the reality that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, and his supporters have taken over the PDP and better part of the APC in the state.

The choice of APP was to allow the loyal favourites of the governor to have a platform to contest the forthcoming local government election in the state.

It was gathered that names of the candidates for chairmanship for the 23 local government areas of the state and those for councillorship positions from the PDP and APC, preferred by the governor have been nominated and screened and forwarded to the Rivers State Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

It was gathered that the list which was dominated by serving caretaker chairmen of the LGAs, were front to contest on the platform of APP.

However, it was learned that the council chairmen loyal to the governor, would soon defect to the APP alongside their supporters, who are members of the PDP.

Posters and bill boards of the current CTC chairman of Port Harcourt City Council, Ezebunwo Ichemati, and others with APP logo campaigning for chairmanship position emerged, yesterday.

Ichemati when reached had said they would contest and campaign on the platform of the APP, assuring that they would provide credible leadership if elected into office.

Also, the CTC Chairman of Khana LGA, Marvin Yobana and his supporters have formally announced their defection to the APP.

Meanwhile, the state chairman of APP, Sunny Wokekoro, in Port Harcourt, yesterday, while speaking on the forthcoming LGA polls, said the election would be a new narrative, new frontier, new threshold in political leadership.

Wokekoro said that APP would entrench a new system of governance at the grassroots that would touch the lives of our people and impact our society.

He disclosed that the party would commence its senatorial zone campaign today, September 24, starting with Rivers Southeast senatorial district in Boring, adding that state party campaign would end with Rivers East senatorial zone to be held in Port Harcourt, on September 26.
