Ebonyi Governor’s Father Who Married 30 Wives, Has 108 Children, Crowned King

Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu, the father of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, was recently coronated as the traditional ruler of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community in Izzi Local Government Area.

The event was attended by dignitaries from within and outside the state, including former governors, senators, and local government officials.

Chief Nwifuru Nwankpu, a renowned farmer, has 17 wives and 108 children, including Governor Francis Nwifuru, who is from his fourth wife. Interestingly, 21 of his children are graduates, thanks to the efforts of their mothers who single-handedly sponsored their education.

“My father’s decision to marry many wives was influenced by the intimidation and humiliation he endured from villagers in his quest for greatness,” he said.

Governor Francis Nwifuru presented his father with a certificate and staff of office, highlighting that the coronation was done in accordance with the law establishing Ebonyi State Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Cap 146.

In his remarks, Governor Nwifuru reflected on the past struggles faced by his family, including the killing of his uncle and the forceful acquisition of their land. He described his father as a hard-working and hospitable man who loves his family and community.

“My father is a loving father and husband, who take care of all his children and wives.

“All his wives and children work hard to train themselves in school and that is why we have 25 graduates in my family who struggled to train themselves with the efforts of their mothers,” he said.

However, the governor advised his father to be generous and just in his rule, ensuring peace and unity in the community.

“Do not use this revered position to seek revenge or perpetuate injustice. Rather, let it be a symbol of unity, fairness, and service to humanity,” the governor said.
