The formal arraignment of gospel singer Timilehin Ajayi, who allegedly killed his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu, will begin on Monday at the Nasarawa State High Court, Lafia.

The police command disclosed this in a post on X on Sunday.

“Timilehin Ajayi, who was charged on January 17, 2025, with culpable homicide punishable by death and subsequently remanded in the Correctional Centre in Lafia, is set to be arraigned on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 9:00 AM before Justice Simon Aboki at High Court 2, Lafia,” it read.

The command had earlier said the suspect was charged on January 17, 2025, for culpable homicide, which is punishable by death, in line with Section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

The suspect was caught on a motorcycle in New Karshi, Karu Local Government, on January 12, with the severed head of the 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, who was serving in Abuja.

An investigation by the police revealed that the suspect killed and dismembered her body at his residence. Confessing to the crime during his parade at the command headquarters, the suspect claimed he was jealous because he suspected infidelity after going through messages on her phone.

The suspect, who claimed to be in a romantic relationship with the deceased, said he used a knife and machete to dismember her corpse and kept the remains in a polythene bag.

The family of the late victim, while dismissing the suspect’s claim of being in a relationship with their daughter, said they believe she wasn’t his first murder victim. They, therefore, demanded justice.
