An Akungba-Akoko Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has arraigned a man, Femi Olamitoke, over allegations that he stabbed a student, Adeyemi Abolaji, with a knife during an altercation.

Olamitoke was brought before the court on Thursday on a two-count charge bordering on assault.

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Olasunkanmi Boboye, the incident occurred on June 8, 2026, at about 8:10 p.m. within the Akungba-Akoko Magisterial District.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stabbed the victim on the right hand during the incident.

He further described Olamitoke as a person known for frequent disputes, adding that previous efforts had been made to amicably settle related disagreements.

Boboye told the court that the alleged offence contravened Section 249(D) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the defendant, Bode Wolemiwa, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the court that he would not evade trial.

In his ruling, Magistrate K.A. Kolawole admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like amount.

The magistrate directed that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide a valid tax clearance certificate for the current year.

He also ordered the police to verify the surety’s address.

The case was subsequently adjourned until June 24, 2026, for further hearing.
