APC’s defections defence insult to Nigerians, says Tambuwal’s team

The media office of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has accused the All Progressives Congress of character assassination and said that the the APC must take responsibility for its failures and work towards real solutions to Nigeria’s crises.

It also said the APC’s attempt to frame recent defections as a result of President Tinubu’s so-called economic reforms is both misleading and insulting to Nigerians.

The reaction came after the APC dismissed Tambuwal’s recent comments on defections from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling party.

Speaking after the North-West zonal meeting of the PDP in Kaduna on Saturday, Tambuwal attributed the defections to “stomach infrastructure” rather than genuine public interest.

However, in a statement released on Sunday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Tambuwal as a “serial defector,” questioning his credibility on the matter.

He recalled Tambuwal’s political movements from the ANPP to the Democratic People’s Party in 2007, back to ANPP, then to PDP, before defecting to APC in 2014 and returning to PDP in 2018.

“A wandering politician like Tambuwal lacks the moral authority to question the intentions of those defecting from a crisis-ridden PDP to our great party,” Morka stated.

He argued that PDP members were joining the APC to align with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which he claimed yielded positive results.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, Tambuwal’s media office accused the APC of using propaganda and personal attacks to cover up governance failures.

“The recent statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC), signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, attacking His Excellency, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is a blatant attempt to silence opposition voices and divert public attention from the deepening crises facing Nigeria.

“Rather than addressing the pressing issues of economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failure, the APC resorts to cheap propaganda and personal attacks—a tactic that underscores its desperation and failure of leadership.”

The statement emphasised that Tambuwal’s concerns about “stomach infrastructure” influencing defections were a patriotic warning for Nigerians to defend democracy.

“As an experienced statesman, he has witnessed the APC’s increasing use of coercion, enticement, and intimidation to weaken the opposition and pave the way for one-party authoritarian rule.

“His warning serves as a wake-up call for all Nigerians to reject opportunistic politics and prioritise leadership defined by integrity, principle, and vision.”

The media office also dismissed the APC’s claim that defections were driven by economic reforms, describing it as misleading and an insult to Nigerians facing hardship.

“The APC’s attempt to frame recent defections as a result of President Tinubu’s so-called economic reforms is both misleading and insulting to Nigerians who continue to endure unprecedented hardship.

“The reality under this administration is grim. Inflation has soared, pushing the cost of living beyond the reach of millions, while insecurity has worsened, turning homes, farms, and highways into danger zones.

“Unemployment rates continue to rise, with countless businesses shutting down, leaving many in despair and deepening the scourge of poverty.

“Given these dire conditions, can those defecting to the APC genuinely tell Nigerians that life has improved under this administration? The answer is a resounding no. These defections are not a testament to APC’s good governance but rather a reflection of the desperation for survival amid economic distress.”

The media office argued that the ruling party was misleading Nigerians with narratives of economic recovery while ordinary citizens struggled with worsening living conditions.

“Foreign reserves and trade surpluses mean little when citizens cannot afford food, shelter, and healthcare. This administration has replaced governance with propaganda, hoping to deceive Nigerians into ignoring their suffering.”

It maintained that Tambuwal’s stance was not politically motivated but a patriotic duty to warn Nigerians about the threats to democracy and national stability.
