Natasha: Ajaka demands Akpabio’s removal over alleged autocratic actions

Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in Kogi State, has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio over what he described as authoritarian conduct towards Senator Natasha Akpoti, who represents Kogi Central.

Reacting to the controversy, Ajaka stressed that the legislature is essential to upholding democratic principles such as inclusivity and tolerance.

He warned that any form of dictatorship within the Senate undermines these values.

Referring to the widely circulated video of the incident, he argued that Akpabio’s actions have further damaged the Senate’s credibility, fueling concerns about its independence and commitment to the rule of law under his leadership.

Ajaka pointed out that Nigerians expect their lawmakers to be accountable and focused on serving the people.

However, when senators are prevented from expressing their constituents’ concerns due to oppressive leadership, it poses a serious risk to the nation’s democracy.

“As someone who has served as a governor, minister, and now Senate President, Akpabio should demonstrate the leadership skills required to build consensus and foster cooperation among his colleagues, regardless of gender, background, or political affiliation. Instead, he has chosen to repeatedly intimidate Senator Natasha, which must stop,” Ajaka stated.

He urged the Senate to take immediate action by replacing Akpabio with a leader who embodies fairness, inclusivity, and democratic values. He warned that failing to uphold justice and respect among senators could jeopardize Nigeria’s democratic future.

Ajaka concluded by calling on lawmakers to prioritize governance and policies that improve citizens’ lives rather than engaging in unnecessary conflicts that weaken democratic institutions.
