From Darkness to Light: Boya’s 30 Transformers Bring Relief to Off-Grid Communities in Fufore/Song

In a bold step toward fulfilling his campaign pledges, Hon. Aliyu Boya Wakili, the Member of the House of Representatives for Fufore/Song Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Police Institutions, has begun delivering on his promise to bring electricity to off-grid communities across his constituency.

With many communities long disconnected from the national grid, plagued by stolen transformers, and burdened with faulty equipment, Boya’s intervention has sparked hope among residents who have endured years of darkness.

During his campaign, Boya assured constituents that he would address the pressing issues of electrification by connecting all off-grid communities to the national grid, replacing stolen transformers, and repairing or replacing faulty ones.

True to his word, the first batch of 18 transformers was distributed across the constituency late last year, marking a significant milestone in his mission to restore power to underserved areas.

Now, a second batch of 12 transformers has arrived in Yola, destined for installation in Fufore and Song, further demonstrating his commitment to this cause.

“Many of our communities have been left off the grid for far too long,” Boya said in a statement. “Transformers have been stolen, others are faulty, and this has crippled development and the quality of life for our people.

I promised to connect every off-grid community to the national grid, replace every stolen transformer, and fix the faulty ones—and I am delivering on that promise.”

The distribution of these 30 transformers so far is a lifeline for communities that have struggled with inconsistent or nonexistent electricity.

Local leaders and residents alike have hailed the initiative as a game-changer. “For years, we’ve watched thieves strip away our transformers, leaving us in the dark,” said Musa Ibrahim, a resident of Song. “Now, with Hon. Boya’s efforts, we finally see light at the end of the tunnel.”

The theft of transformers has been a persistent problem in the region, with criminal elements targeting the equipment for its valuable components, while aging and poorly maintained transformers have compounded the crisis.

Boya’s plan not only replaces what was lost but also aims to secure a sustainable power supply by linking communities to the national grid—a move that could deter future theft and ensure long-term stability.

The second batch of 12 transformers, currently en route to Fufore and Song, will be distributed strategically across the constituency, prioritizing areas with the greatest need. Boya has vowed that this is just the beginning, with more batches expected as he works to cover every corner of Fufore/Song.

“This is not a one-off effort,” he emphasized. “Every community will feel the impact of this promise.”

As the installations begin, residents are optimistic that this wave of electrification will boost local businesses, improve healthcare services, and enhance education by powering schools and homes. For now, Boya’s actions stand as a testament to his resolve, turning campaign rhetoric into tangible results—one transformer at a time.
