The Kwara State Police Command has pledged to bring perpetrators to justice following a deadly assault on a Police Mobile Force camp in Tenebo Village, Kaiama Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of three officers.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday through the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, expressing grief over the attack that occurred in the early hours of the day.
Adekimi described the incident as a brutal and cowardly act, noting that the slain officers died while defending the nation.
He said the command received reports of the attack with deep shock, adding that the officers paid the supreme price in active service.
“The fallen officers made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while protecting lives and property. Their courage and commitment will not be forgotten,” he stated.
The police boss extended condolences to the bereaved families and colleagues of the deceased, while also wishing injured officers a quick recovery.
He assured that the command would provide necessary support to the affected families during the period of mourning.
Adekimi further reassured residents of the state that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
According to him, security operatives have been mobilised, with intelligence and tactical resources deployed to track down the assailants.
“There will be no safe haven for those behind this reprehensible act. We are determined to ensure they face the full weight of the law,” he said.
It was earlier reported that suspected terrorists stormed the camp in a surprise raid, killing three officers and leaving several others injured, as residents fled amid intense gunfire.
Meanwhile, the command also announced a breakthrough in its anti-kidnapping operations, revealing the arrest of six suspected kidnappers in Baruten Local Government Area.
Adekimi disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation, with firearms recovered from them.
He reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain its offensive against criminal elements across the state.
