A Catholic priest serving in the Archdiocese of Kafanchan, Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, has been killed by suspected kidnappers in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Chancellor of the Kafanchan Catholic Archdiocese, Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Okechukwu was abducted from his residence around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
His body was discovered on Ash Wednesday morning, though the motive behind his murder remains unclear.
Shanet described the late priest as a devoted servant of God who dedicated his life to spreading peace, love, and hope. His death, he said, has left a deep void in the diocesan community.
The Archdiocese has urged parishioners to remain calm and prayerful while honoring the priest’s memory. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, for confirmation were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
