In a bold move to stimulate economic growth, foster social development, and enhance the quality of life for all citizens, the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa embarked on a comprehensive road construction and rehabilitation initiative across Ondo State.
This transformative project underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to building critical infrastructure that connects communities, drives commerce, and supports sustainable development.
Speaking during an inspection of road projects in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa stated:
“Our vision is clear—we are building roads that lead to prosperity. Roads that connect our people to opportunities, make our communities safer, and open up the economic potential that has long been untapped in many parts of our state.”
From urban centers to rural communities, the state government has prioritized both the construction of new roads and the rehabilitation of old, dilapidated ones.
Some of the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay project sites visited by the Governor on Wednesday, 19th March 2025, included Iloro-Owe Akala Street, Iro-Odopetu Road, and Alafiatayo-Odole-Odi-Olowo Road, all of which are nearing completion.
The Governor also inspected the ongoing Oda Road, Ijoka Road, and Shagari-Onyearugbulem Flyover projects, assuring residents of their timely completion.
The inspection visit drew a massive turnout of excited residents who expressed appreciation for the projects. Many lamented the decades of neglect these roads had suffered, commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for extending the road rehabilitation gesture to their communities.
These projects are poised to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and improve mobility within densely populated areas. In many communities, what was once a daily struggle to navigate impassable roads has become a thing of the past. Businesses are thriving due to improved accessibility, and residents are enjoying smoother, safer travel.
Governor Aiyedatiwa is not just rehabilitating roads; he is reshaping the future of Ondo State. Every kilometer of road completed represents economic empowerment and community development.
The Aiyedatiwa administration places a premium on quality, ensuring every project adheres to strict engineering standards. The government has partnered with reputable contractors, employed high-grade materials, and instituted a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to guarantee durability and value for money.
“We owe it to our people to deliver infrastructure that lasts,” Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized. “Our approach is deliberate. We are investing in quality because we understand that these roads are vital lifelines for generations to come.”
Importantly, rural communities are not left out in this road revolution. Under the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP), feeder roads are being constructed and rehabilitated to link remote villages to neighboring towns and local government headquarters. These projects are bringing long-awaited development to areas once cut off from the rest of the state.
A resident of Idanre, Mrs. Alatise Oluwalanbe, expressed her gratitude:
“For years, we were isolated. Our children couldn’t go to school during the rainy season, and farmers couldn’t sell their produce. Today, things have changed. We thank the Governor for remembering us.”
As part of his administration’s infrastructural development roadmap, Governor Aiyedatiwa assures citizens that more projects are in the pipeline.
“We are not resting on our laurels. This is just the beginning of a comprehensive effort to modernize Ondo State. Every zone will feel the impact of our road development program,” he said.
He continued:
“We believe that infrastructure is the backbone of any thriving society. By improving our road networks, we are building the foundation for job creation, industrial growth, tourism, and overall economic prosperity.”
