Police foil pipeline attack, kill suspected vandals in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of suspected vandals attempting to destroy a pipeline in the Aluu and Rumuekpe communities.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, stating that the suspects died on the spot.

He explained that the operation was part of ongoing efforts with other security agencies to protect criticall infrastructure.

“The joint security forces successfully prevented an attempt to vandalize a pipeline.

The suspects were neutralized before they could detonate explosives,” Adepoju said.

The swift intervention took place on March 16p in Ikwerre Local Government Area. P

Following this success, security operatives moved to Onelga LGA on March 19, where they foiled another planned attack.

Two suspects were arrested with four dynamites, detonating devices, and other explosive components.

Further operations on March 21 led to a raid on a kidnappers’ hideoutp along Omoku Road in Ahoada East LGA.

Eight suspected kidnappers were arrested, and six victims were rescued.

Authorities recovered firearms, live ammunition, and communication equipment.

Adepoju also announced increased security deployments across the state, including the establishment of an operations control room for real-time surveillance.

He warned against acts of vandalism on pipelines and public infrastructure, vowing that security forces would track down and prosecute offenders.

Additionally, police will begin impounding vehicles without registered number plates in seven days to curb criminal activities, urging owners to comply with registration requirements.
