A 19-year-old ex-convict, Olaniyan Qudus, has been sentenced to six months in prison by an Ona-Ara Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for stealing electronics from a church.

Qudus was charged with breaching public peace and theft.

He pleaded guilty to both charges before the court on Thursday.

Presiding Magistrate A.M. Ayo-Alagbe sentenced him to one month for disturbing the peace and six months for stealing.

The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of six months at the Agodi Correctional Facility.

Prosecutor Salewa Hammed told the court that Qudus committed the crime on March 15 at All of Faith Christian Church in Oniyefun, Idi-Osan, Ibadan.

He had recently been released from prison before stealing items including an Elepaq generator (N200,000), an Ox fan (N50,000), a top engine (N30,000), a bell (N20,000), and a ceiling fan (N50,000), all valued at N350,000.

Hammed stated that the offence violated Sections 249 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
